On May 9, TSU students, professors and employees took part in the celebrations dedicated to Victory Day.

The predecessor of Tambov State University - Tambov State Pedagogical Institute made a huge contribution to the Victory over Nazi Germany. In the first years of the war, more than 60 students and teachers left as volunteers for the front. Dozens of female undergraduates took up nursing courses at the expense of their rest. Students helped with their work to strengthen the defense power of the country.

“Defending the Motherland, dozens of the best students, graduates and teachers of the Pedagogical Institute perished at the front. With their selfless labor at work, construction of defensive structures, work on collective and state farms, students forged the Great Victory," said Vladimir Stromov, the rector of TSU. "Our duty is to remember those to whom we owe our life, those who bravely fought for peace on Earth."

Celebration of the 73rd anniversary of the Great Victory in Tambov traditionally began with a parade on Lenin Square. Together with the military men of the Tambov garrison, a student detachment for law enforcement "Derzhava" marched across the central square of the city.

“We have been preparing for the parade for more than a month, every day for two hours, except for Saturday and Sunday," said Gevorg Galstyan, a TSU student who participated in the parade. – “We are doing this in the name of our ancestors. Everyone should know: we remember their heroic deeds and we are proud of them!”

The parade continued with the procession of Tambov residents along the central streets of the city to the Memorial Wall in Vozdvizhensky Cemetery. Activists of the TSU Council of Students laid flowers to the memorials "Eternal Flame" and "Tank Tambov Collective Farmer." Representatives of the University took part in the requiem at Vozdvizhensky Cemetery.

“Memories of the war are passed down from generation to generation: we know from our great-grandfathers and grandfathers at what cost the victory over fascism was to the Soviet people," Oksana Shunyaeva, Chairman of the Board of TSU Students noted. "And we are fully aware of the importance of preserving the memory of the great exploit and the heroes who committed it, because this is the basis of our present and future.”
