Moscow hosted the International Volunteer Forum. It gathered 15,000 participants from 120 countries of the world, including more than 130 volunteers from Derzhavin University as part of a delegation from Tambov region.

The business program of the forum included discussions and workshops with the participation of leading experts in the field of civic engagement and volunteering, and the presentation of best volunteer practices.

“The TSU Resource Volunteer Center “Boomerang” entered the top ten of the best organizations-members of the Association of Volunteer Centers of Russia, including the activity of volunteers in the information system Volunteers of Russia,” noted Elena Velikanova, Director of the Resource Center Boomerang." “This indicates a high level of development of the volunteer movement at Derzhavin University.”

During the forum, a festive concert and awarding ceremony of the best volunteers in the country took place.

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the volunteers with words of gratitude.

“You are doing important things not only for yourself and for those to whom you are directly helping, but also for the whole of society. When people look at you, they take not only an example from you, but it arises a feeling of hope for what happens here, the reliability of our society. This makes all of us more balanced and resistant to internal and external shocks.”

According to Svetlana Konchakova, head of the TSU Youth Policy Department, despite the completion of the Year of the Volunteer, the University volunteer movement continues its work. In December, the Youth Policy Department launched an annual charity campaign to collect waste paper "Derzhavin University for Children”. New Year's gifts for children from orphanages in the Tambov region will be purchased with the money.

On Student's Day, according to the results of work in 2018, they will be awarded the “Person of the Year” award in the “Volunteering” nomination.
