The Faculty of History, World Politics and Sociology of TSU hosted the International Scientific Conference "Humanistic traditions of Russian philosophical and socio-political thought: origins, specificity, modern perception". It was dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the outstanding Russian thinker Boris Chicherin and the centenary of Derzhavin University.
The dean of the faculty, Vladimir Romanov, noted that TSU has considerable experience in researching Chicherin’s scientific creativity. The study of his creative heritage began in the late 1990s and is continuing at the university today.
The conference was attended by over 40 researchers: representatives of educational institutions from various regions of Russia: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladimir, Yelets, Nizhny Novgorod, Tomsk, Chelyabinsk. Scientists from the Republic of Belarus also participated in the conference.
The plenary session consisted of scientific reports from leading experts in the field of Chicherin studies. At the breakout session, the participants discussed what role the ideas of Boris Chicherin and other Russian thinkers of the past can and should play in our modern life, whether it is possible in the new historical conditions to use the recommendations of these thinkers to rationalize social phenomena and processes, to substantiate projects of spiritual personality formation.
For the conference participants there was a thematic book exhibition organized by the staff of the TSU Fundamental Library.
The guests noted the high level of speeches by young scientists at Derzhavin University. Senior Researcher of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Chizhkov presented TSU with his new monograph “Metaphysics of freedom and the idea of state in the philosophy of B.N. Chicherin.
