At the initiative of TSU, f monument to an outstanding mathematician Andrey Kolmogorov has been raised in Tambov. It is the first monument erected to the scientist in Russia. That is one of the key events in the program for celebrating the 100th anniversary of Derzhavin University. The cultural-historical object is located on the TSU campus in Tambov at 5 Komsomolskaya Square, next to the building of the Institute of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies.

The monument was funded by Derzhavin University. In addition, TSU professors and students, as well as professors and researchers from Russian and foreign universities and Tambov residents made their contributions to the monuments. The sculptor is Dmitry Salychev, a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. The project was designed jointly with the architect Konstantin Fomin.

“The monument to Andrey Nikolaevich Kolmogorov is a part of the socio-cultural space of the University and, of course, of the regional cultural heritage,” says TSU rector Vladimir Stromov. “In modern history it is difficult to find a scientist who has had such a significant influence on the development of the world science. He was the creator of a scientific school, a true enlightener, a reformer of mathematical education, a philosopher and a historian of science. Andrey Nikolaevich Kolmogorov was responsible for his work and was faithful to his alma mater. He spent his entire professional life at Moscow State University. This is a worthy example for all of us.”

Andrey Kolmogorov was born on April 25, 1903 in Tambov. Since 2000, on the initiative of Professor Alexander Bulgakov, Head of the Department of Algebra and Geometry at TSU, the Scientific Conferences “Kolmogorov Readings. General Control Problems and Their Applications. At the conference, scientists discuss topical issues of mathematical control, present the results they have achieved lately, and get acquainted with young professionals taking their first steps in science.
